Vikki Montgomery

Chaplain-In-Residence - Darnall 112

Vikki MontgomeryVikki Montgomery is a Chaplain-in-Residence in Darnall Hall. She graduated in May 2006 from Wesley Theological Seminary having earned a Master of Theological Studies degree with an emphasis in Religion and the Arts and a concentration in drama. For her thesis project, she wrote a play called “The Voice” for which she also directed two staged readings. Vikki, who calls herself “Episcopal-leaning” and will be fully received into the Episcopal tradition in November 2007, has been a volunteer at the Washington National Cathedral for almost 10 years. She serves as a welcoming presence and a pilgrimage volunteer at the Cathedral Center for Prayer and Pilgrimage.

Vikki received her undergraduate degree, a B.S. in health education with a minor in communication, from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She integrated these two interests by writing about health and wellness for adults and drug and alcohol prevention education for children and youth. A Pennsylvania native who migrated to Maryland, Vikki worked for nearly 20 years as a freelance writer, editor, and project manager in the Washington Metropolitan area. One of her favorite projects was working on a Bible study curriculum for ages infancy through college. She also worked for three years as a journalist, editor, and communication director for the Adventist Church in North America. In addition to completing her seminary degree, during the past four years Vikki taught as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Communication and Journalism at Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland.

In her free time, Vikki likes exploring the city of Washington, especially its sacred spaces, museums, galleries, stages, and vegan restaurants. Vikki’s daughter, Kyla, who lives with her, is a sophomore guitar major and vocal performance minor at neighboring Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Her daughter, Kenda, is a college junior in Tennesee.
