Robert Van der Waag is a Chaplain-in-Residence in Copley Hall. Robert graduated from Georgetown in 1997 with a B.A. in Government and Theology. He then pursued graduate studies in theology at DukeUniversityDivinitySchool, where he earned a Masters of Theological Studies in 1999. After graduating from Duke, he worked for three years as a religion teacher at Holy Ghost Preparatory School, a secondary school operated by the priests of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. He then went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he lived for four years while pursuing his Ph.D. in Systematic Theology at DuquesneUniversity. While at Duquesne, he taught several ethics courses in the Department of Theology and coached high school and college baseball. Robert returned to Washington, DC in 2006 to work at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, a XaverianBrothersSchool, where he taught IB World Religions and Catholic Social Thought. He also participated in the school’s campus ministry program, coached for the varsity baseball team, and served as the announcer for the basketball team. In 2007, Robert successfully defended his dissertation. He currently teaches as a Professorial Lecturer for the Department of Theology and holds a position as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at The Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs. Robert enjoys traveling, outdoor sports, Hoya basketball, music, and reading. He wants to continue to make a positive contribution to the spiritual life of the Georgetown community.
