Lazar Berman

Lazar Berman is a Chaplain-In-Residence in Harbin Hall.  A devout Orthodox Jew, he spent three and half years in Israel as a First Lieutenant in the Israel Defense Force, during which time he counseled soldiers suffering with a variety of issues, including poverty, abuse, pregnancy and depression.  While in Israel, he also served for eight months in a unit comprised almost entirely of Muslim Bedouin soldiers. In all of his military positions, he was responsible for ensuring that his soldiers' religious needs were met, be they Jewish, Muslim, Christian, or Druze. He also has been a regional director for Zeta Beta Tau, an international Jewish college fraternity.  As Regional Director of Zeta Beta Tau, Lazar ran many successful programs, including weekend seminars where he organized prayer services, Shabbat meals and Torah reading.  Lazar holds a B.A. in European History from Boston University and will complete his M.A. in Security Studies from Georgetown next May, 2010.
