ESCAPE Staff

Bridget Sherry, Director of ESCAPE First Year Experience

Bridget Sherry

Bridget is very excited to join the ESCAPE staff as the new program director. Prior to ESCAPE, Bridget worked with the US Conference of Catholic Bishops/Migration and Refugee Services as a field coordinator for domestic refugee resettlement programs. She also served as an Associate Program Director for Jesuit Volunteers International, supporting volunteers working overseas in eleven different countries. Bridget served as a Jesuit Volunteer in Belize for two years after graduating from Boston College with a degree in Theology. She is looking forward to getting to know the Hilltop and working with the wonderful student community at Georgetown!

Kristen Cates & Mark Real

Kristen Cates (COL '11), Student Program Coordinator

Kristen is a junior in the college, majoring in Spanish with minors in Italian and Philosophy. She hopes to do service work for two years after her time as an undergraduate and would also like to pursue sociolinguistic research and attend law school in the future. Kristen is very excited to be back on the Hilltop and a part of the ESCAPE Staff this year as one of the student program coordinators! ESCAPE has been a big part of Kristen’s life while at Georgetown, as she went on an overnight her freshman year and loved it so much that she became a leader and co-captain on Team XVIII last year. She also volunteered and went to Belize with the Global ESCAPE Team this past summer, something that has truly impacted the direction of her remaining two years. She cannot wait to see what this year has in store for ESCAPE and for the campus as a whole!

Mark Real (COL '11), Student Program Coordinator

Mark feels privileged and glad to be co-student program coordinator for ESCAPE. This year marks Mark’s third with ESCAPE. Ever since his first overnight in the second semester of his freshman year, he has always looked back on ESCAPE experiences fondly. Last year, Mark was a co-captain for ESCAPE team XVIII’s “On Fire.” He was also a part of the third annual Global ESCAPE team that worked to build a house in Belize City. This year as a junior, he is fortunate enough to play a different role as a student program coordinator for team XIX’s “In Sync.” Aside from his ESCAPE duties, Mark is a Biochemistry major in the College with a pre-med concentration and potential minors in English and Theology. He is excited to work with ESCAPE once again and to meet the new faces that make Georgetown the great place that it is.

Contact Mark at mjr76@georgetown.edu or 202-687-5419.

The ESCAPE office is located in the Leavey Center, across from Uncommon Grounds. Please stop by if you have any questions, want to pay, need to fill out a form, or just want to chat!
