Ignatian Life Community

The Ignatian Life Community (ILC, or “ILCs” to refer to the various small groups) serves as an umbrella organization for small faith-sharing and spiritual discussion groups within Catholic Ministry, designed to foster spiritual formation through the lens of Ignatian spirituality. These are separate and distinct from student organizations. Grounded in the principle of cura personalis, ILC encourages students to seek God in all things, develop a personal relationship with Christ, find a sense of belonging within the Catholic community at Georgetown, and become comfortable speaking about their experiences of prayer, faith, and spirituality.

Structure and Format

Ignatian Life Community groups meet weekly for prayer, reflection, and community building, with members committing to a sustained shared journey. Student facilitators are provided with a group meeting outline that is consistent but can be tweaked to fit the needs of each group. Groups will begin meeting the week of October 18th and meet weekly for 6 sessions.

Large Community Gatherings

To ensure that students understand themselves as members of both a small group and the broader ILC, we will host regular large-group gatherings. These events (community dinners, spiritual discussions, and special Sunday offerings, for example) will be opportunities to gather the graces from individual groups and celebrate a shared identity as “friends in the Lord.” This also supports reflecting the overall many parts but one body character of the Church.
