A message to the campus community regarding Philippine typhoon relief efforts

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community:

As we reflect on the catastrophic typhoon that affected the Philippines, we offer our prayers and our deepest sympathies for all those who were killed in the storm, and for the thousands now without a home. Georgetown has deep connections to the Philippines, through our students and alumni who live there or who have family living there and through the Jesuits who live and work in the Philippines, particularly at the Jesuit-founded Ateneo University.

Members of the Georgetown community have already begun to mobilize to help those affected by this tragedy. The Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching and Service has set up a fund to support the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief work that is currently happening in the Philippines. Donations to the fund can be made through the CSJ website . All gifts received will be directed to the Disaster Response and Management (DREAM) Team at Ateneo University and the Society of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, which has a project on the ground in Ormoc, Leyte.

We will update the Center for Social Justice website as the university develops educational programming, service opportunities, and updated locations for donations related to the relief and reconstruction efforts.

A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Copley Crypt Chapel. In addition, all University chaplaincies will remember the victims at their regularly scheduled services.

We will continue to keep the victims of this tragedy in our prayers, and we encourage everyone in the university community to support those who were affected.
